Chief information security officers (CISOs) have always had a lot on their plate – but with increasing acceleration towards digital transformation precipitated by the Covid-19 pandemic, a lot more has been placed atop it.
Cloud adoption has previously changed the role of the CISO. As Michael Piacente, an executive recruiter at Hitch Partners, explained last year, the ‘information’ part of the role is all but becoming an outdated term; many businesses today are built entirely on applications in the cloud.
Yet there is much more to consider. Research from various companies has revealed the extent of the difficulty, from a Gartner study during its recent Security & Risk Management summit, to a survey around CISO decision-making from vendor Thycotic.
Ultimately, the best way to ease CISOs’ pain is through long-term thinking, collaboration, and communication – all as part of a leadership portfolio..
